From The Desk Of: Dave Brown

Dear Friend,

Since you've found this website I suppose its ok to let you know "I love Summer Camp". The truth is, I'm always on the internet looking for information on building a summer camp or cabin. That's what led me to put this website up. Let me explain

While surfing around the internet, I stumbled upon something so fantastic that it immediately got my attention In fact, I discovered something sooo amazing that at first I thought it was "too good to be true" like most things are.

You see, a few months ago, I was doing some research on Mr. Jeffrey Livingstone, one of the most well-known and respected cabin builders of his time. I noticed that most of his work was available and accounted for with the exception of one of his most important pieces of work,: "Build Your Own Summer Camp Or Cabin".

Well, this got me curious and so I started digging a little deeper. I started to send off a few emails asking questions, but unfortunately every road I seemed to head down was a dead end, until a couple of weeks ago that is...

By a stroke of luck, I emailed my story to one of my favorite site's webmasters as it turned out he had an old copy of this difficult to find book - it was right under my damn nose. After numerous emails I finally got him to mail me his copy.

I Uncovered One Of The Most Important Cabin Making Manuscripts Of All Time....

Even though it was first published in 1955, this book has the best summer camp or cabin building information I have ever seen.

In the 14 chapters here's just a snippet of what you'll learn:

  • Selecting the cottage you want, no one can tell you this, it will be your preference. There is a large assortment in the book and you guaranteed to find something you like.
  • How to follow the plans for each cabin with detailed pictures and step-by-step instruction on how to begin construction.
  • How to start with the construction outline, why this is crucial before you start banging nails into timber and laying your floor.
  • Learn how to compile your materials list, you will be guided through what exactly you'll need for your cabin. Its better to get this right now rather then find out later, that you've forgotten something and your building will be held up.
  • Why build your own summer cabin, well this is really up to you, but most people dream of having that outstanding cabin waiting for you when you go on holidays. Then there's the satisfaction of doing something yourself.
  • What cottage to build, there are so many varied and interesting types, it will really be up to you. You'll need to work out your requirements, such as how many people will be using it.
  • What you will need to build your lovely fireplace, what rocks to use or bricks and easy to follow plans to give you a fireplace to die for.
  • 4 steps to constructing the walls, uncover some sneaky little tricks that will save you hrs and hrs of mistakes and hard work.

And there's loads more...

At this point, you might be wondering how you can get your hands on a copy…

Well here's the good news.

After doing even more research (I told you I was a cabin building addict) I have contacted the original copyright owners and gained permission to republish Mr. Jeffrey Livingstone's complete work on this website.

Summer camps and cabins is my passion and I want to share it with as many people as possible. Believe it or not, I've decided to do something completely unheard of these days. I'm going to let you have this amazing manuscript for nothing.

It’s FREE… Yes 100% FREE

Now you have no excuse for not being able to make a cabin or summer camp that will have your friends green with envy and wanting to come and stay with you.

So without any further adieu, lets get started...

Choosing the Best Log Floor Plan by Denise Orford

Can you imagine having driven 4 hrs to reach what you thought was your dream cabin - only to be greeted with 6 inches of water in the basement - and worse, water pouring through the front door from the raised plot of land just up yonder? Well - it was a big thunderstorm (but not the first).

Log Homes - The Most Suitable Floor Plan by Mike Peter Davidson

The worst you do to yourself is dream big but work the least to turn it into reality. Real men are those who think for it and just start bang on efforts for it. Log homes' dreamers suffer the same problem. They do want to own one since years but they haven't really got on the floor to make it happen.

Information on Log Home Kits by Christi Sealey

The most popular way to build a dream home is log home kits. You might want to know why log home building kits are so popular. Since producers use machinery to size and shape the wood, log home building kits are less expensive than handcrafted log homes.

Home Types, For Example a Log Home Plan, Determine the Kinds of Paint You Should Use by Alice Lane

There are two main types of paints used today, latex and alkyd (better known as oil-based). Latex is water based, provides an excellent finish and is easier to use and clean up than oil-based paints. It also has less odor and dries quickly. This type is best used on drywall, masonry and already painted surfaces. It is best to avoid latex paints on raw wood or wallpaper.

Choosing a Log Home Floor Plan That is Right For You by Tom Heatherington

You made your decision; you are finally going to build that log home. Not just any log home, but that special creation you've held in your mind's eye for so many years. You have walked on those hardwood floors, gazed out from behind those oversized picture windows, cooked dinner, curled up by the fire, and even slept in that special home - using that vivid imagination of yours.
